An insular and Xenophobic sapient species classified as Exoartiodactyla Rhodania Sapiens. Roughly humanoid, they are bipedal with two forelimbs that have six fingers on each hand. Their legs are digitigrade, they are thicker than they are wide and have roughly conical heads on motile necks with heavy jaws.
Psychologically, they are inscrutable to humanity. It is unknown if their culture is monolithic, or if their nation which borders on Terran space is simply very large. Almost nothing is known of their history. Those Rhodanians known to humanity practice a religion whose doctrine centers on purification through pain, both emotional and physical. Sacrificing loved ones is a common rite of passage. They have been known to raid human space, capturing civilians and torturing them in creative and inhumane ways, purportedly to purify their souls. Their government is at least partially theocratic.
Militarily, they are generally competent, but remain several decades behind the Empire in terms of technology. Diplomatic relationships with them are virtually nonexistent, and no treaties or agreements of any sort have ever been reached.
Raids into human space declined significantly after an extensive campaign by the Empire to punish the Rhodanians for a particularly well-executed and destructive raid forty years before the present.
