Fundamental Charge Inverter

Also known as an FCI. A device which produces an extremely highly tuned electromagnetic field flooded with equally-finely tuned alpha, beta and gamma radiation. It inverts the fundamental electrical charge of all atoms of any element heavier than helium within it. It takes several nanoseconds for the charge of these atoms to change when the field is turned on, and to change back when the field is turned off. Developed almost 600 years before present, the technology has been extensively refined over the years and is now extremely cheap and widespread. The vast majority of anti-matter used by the three known warp-capable sapient species in the galaxy is produced through an FCI. MAMR are a very common and relatively safe form of power production, and can be scaled from the almost microscopic all the way up to units capable of annihilating many kilograms of matter per second.

Despite the vague name, FCI’s only work on the fundamental electric charge of atoms.
